Andre 3000

Outkast certainly didn't make loving them all the way easy. Andre, who stopped smoking and drinking, and had become a vegetarian, regularly began dressing in a tricksterlike manner not seen since Digital Underground's Shock G. In performance and photo shoots, he rocked white wigs, straw pants, feathered suits, and crochet hats, mostly embodying the Parliament/ Funkadelic philosophy that so shaped their music, but mainly challenging the notions of what was acceptable, especially in hyper-masculine Hip Hop. For those who got "the wrong impression" Is he on drugs?" Is he gay?" Andre addressed his detractors in an outstanding verse on the track "Return Of The 'G," saying that he was ready for Hip Hop that was "time travelin', rhyme javelin', something mind unravelin." He ordered the rest to "get down!" It is a testament to Andre's lyrical power that, regardless of what he was wearing, he was (and remains) not just a sex symbol, but also widely considered one of the greatest Emcees of all time. But he ain't never lied he said he was an Outkast. However, what he accomplished was greater than alienation: He shook off the shackles that can bind Hip Hop. Dictating what is supposed to look like, sound like, and dress like. Through it all, the more traditional Big Boi always had his pa'tna's back.
