Queens-bred artist Sandra "Lady Pink" Fabara, widely considered the most influential female writer in the history of subway art, also forayed into the gallery realm with relative ease vis-a-vis her graffiti brethren. Most active in the subway system between 1979 and 1985, Lady Pink managed to charm international art collectors with her colorful, at times surrealist-tinged paintings, which often feature unabashedly feminist overtones, as well as reference to mythical creatures and celebratory renditions of the naked female form. Aside from running a successful mural company with her husband in Queens, New York, Pink has landed paintings in such prestigious institutions as the Whitney Museum of American art.
